What this service handles

Delayed baggage delivery is usually the worst-documented movement in travel. A bag leaves an airport in a subcontracted van and reappears, or does not, and the airline's record of what happened in between is a phone number and a note.

VaultPac treats it as a custody movement. The bag is tagged and scanned when it is collected from the baggage service office, held if the delivery address is not ready to receive it, and delivered with proof of who took it and when. The airline gets a record it can show a passenger; the passenger gets a delivery window rather than a day of waiting.

This is an expansion service. It is fully built on the same custody engine as the rest of the luggage platform, and it is offered to airlines, ground handlers and baggage service providers as a contracted movement rather than sold retail.

How VaultPac coordinates it

Every booking is a trip. A trip carries trip services, and each service breaks into the individual movements that actually have to happen — which is why the people and the bags do not have to travel the same way.

  2. Trip services
  3. Individual movements
  • Luggage movement

Bags booked as their own movement, with their own route, their own timing and their own proof.

  • QR custody scan

Every bag carries a tag. Each change of hands is scanned, so custody is a record rather than a recollection.

  • Proof of pickup

Time, place and who released the item, captured at collection.

  • Proof of delivery

Time, place and who received the item, captured at delivery.

  • Secure storage between movements

Items can be held under custody between a pickup and a delivery, and released on a schedule rather than on arrival.

  • Dispatch monitoring

Every movement on one board while it runs, so a late arrival is seen rather than reported.

  • Operator assignment

Movements assigned to a specific operator and vehicle, with the assignment visible to dispatch throughout.

  • Oversized & special items

Golf bags, trade-show cases, strollers, production cases and similar items counted on the movement so the right vehicle is assigned.

What runs this movement

Assignment reads the passenger count and the bag count, so the vehicle that arrives fits both. Larger movements run several.

Why VaultPac for this

  • A scanned custody record from collection to delivery, which is what the complaint file usually lacks.
  • Delivery windows rather than open-ended attempts, so a passenger is not waiting all day.
  • Storage is part of the movement, so an address that cannot receive a bag at nine at night is not a failed run.
  • Built on the same engine as the rest of VaultPac's luggage work, not a bolt-on courier arrangement.

Important

  • VaultPac does not currently hold contracts with airlines for baggage delivery. This page describes a service VaultPac is building and offering, not an existing carrier relationship.

Questions

Do you work directly with airlines?

We are offering this service to airlines, handlers and baggage service providers. We are not claiming an existing carrier contract — if you are a carrier or a handler and want to talk about coverage in Chicago, that is what this page is for.

Can a passenger book this themselves?

Yes, as an ordinary luggage movement, provided the airline will release the bag to a third party you have authorised. That authorisation is between the passenger and the carrier.

What record do we get?

Proof of pickup and proof of delivery, each with time, location and the person involved, plus the scan trail in between. The airline's own bag reference is recorded against the movement.
